Gov. Frank Murkowski on Monday moved to seize control of a major North Slope oil field -- a seismic decision that could provoke a heavyweight court battle between the state and one of the world's most powerful corporations.
Nearly 1,500 soldiers from the 172nd Stryker Brigade Combat Team will return from their deployment to Iraq during the middle of this week. The first of the 3,800 returning soldiers arrived in Alaska over the weekend. The brigade served near the Iraqi city of Mosul from August 2005, to August 2006.
For years, John Anderson has said Nevada is the third most seismically active state in the country, behind California and Alaska . Now, the Nevada Seismological Laboratory director is not so sure.
The University of Alaska Anchorage has expanded its reach to Seattle. The university is offering a graduate level program in project management. Recently, a group of 10 Alaska Airlines employees completed their course work to get their master's degrees.

Eric Draper scored 19 points and McCade Olsen added 19 off the bench as Alaska-Anchorage defeated Missouri-Kansas City 77-to-70 Friday in the Great Alaska Shootout. A 20-to-4 run early in the first half helped the Division-two Seawolves (5-1) build a 42-to-29 lead at the break.
