Alaska: Building A Cabin In Alaska

Nearly 42 percent of Alaskans call Anchorage home. The other 58 percent derisively call it "Los Anchorage." They're referring to the freeways, the highrises, the lattes, and all the other Los Angeles-like things that Anchorage has but the rest of Alaska doesn't.
University Fire officials are still determining the cause of a fire Wednesday night that claimed the life of a Fairbanks man. The man, who rented the 20-by-30 log cabin on Army Road, called 911 to report a fire and said he was trapped inside his cabin.
Willow and Houston residents, airing their views at a public hearing Saturday, said they would welcome a prison on the edge of Houston city limits if prison development would bring new supplies of natural gas to the region.
As I write this column Thursday evening, my granddaughter, Jennifer, and her friend, Mike, are airborne. They are headed to Fairbanks, Alaska, where they should be arriving about midnight.
