Yarn Expo III by Alaska State Yarn Council is 10 a.m.-6 p.m. Sunday at the Hotel Captain Cook, 939 W. Fifth Ave. Shop more than 40 fiber vendors, yarn and fiber information, color forecast, health tips for needle workers and more. Fashion show of knitted, crocheted and felted garments. Mayor Mark Begich will officiate program about the new book "Arctic Lace." Enjoy refreshments, door prizes and family fun, with a breakout track for children's instruction in beading, embroidery, knitting and more. Needle art guilds will be available to let you try spindling and knitting, crochet or weaving. Admission is $5. Cha-Mai's 29th annual bazaar is 9 a.m.-4 p.m Saturday at the Alaska Shrine Center, 1930 E. Northern Lights Blvd. All items are handcrafted. Look for pot scrubbers, diamond willow walking sticks, knitted warm mittens and gloves and scarves and hats, aprons, table runners, painted rocks, beaded jewelry, two sizes of wine caddies, Christmas ornaments, antler sun catchers, baby blankets, quilts, casserole caddies, pillows, ivory and baleen articles, fancy chocolates, towels for many occasions, ceramic gift items, Eskimo dolls, vests, wreaths, floral arrangements, pillowcases, unique long fleece scarves, centerpieces and more. Booth spaces are still available. Profits support travel for Alaska children with burn or orthopedic needs to Shrine hospitals Outside, where they are treated free. Friends of Pets Quilts and Creations is 11 a.m.-2 p.m Saturday at the University Center mall, 3901 Old Seward Highway. The 10th annual Quilts and Creations silent auction to benefit Friends of Pets spay and neuter assistance program features beautiful hand- and machine-stitched quilts of varying sizes. Other artist creations may include items in stained glass, fine knitting and other artwork. A special table of pet products, seasonal baskets and items will also be available for purchase. The Make It Alaskan Festival , noon-8 p.m. Friday, 10 a.m.-7 p.m. Saturday, 11 a.m.-6 p.m. Sunday, Sullivan Arena. This is the only show to feature arts, crafts, gifts and more that are all made and manufactured right here in Alaska. In addition to featuring more than 240 booths of high quality, Alaskan-made products in all price ranges, many represented by the artist or manufacturer themselves, Festival 2006 also boasts live musical entertainment by Alaskan artists. Also, visit the Alaska National Guard Center booth to learn about opportunities with the Guard. Visitors may also enter to win prizes by participating in the Natural Pantry Alaskan Food Safari. 10th annual Scandinavian Bazaar is 10 a.m.-4 p.m Saturday at Viking Hall, 8141 Briarwood St. Scandinavian items for sale including handmade jewelry, knives, artwork, woodcarvings, table linens, knitted hats and scarves, clothing, children furniture, Christmas decorations, sweaters and more. Alaska Bead Society Fall Bead Show is 10 a.m.-5 p.m. Saturday and Sunday at the Anchorage Museum at Rasmuson Center, 121 W. Seventh Ave. Join over 50 Alaska Bead Society Bead artists for our 10th-anniversary Bead Show. Beaded jewelry and handmade glass beads will be for sale, and demonstrations will include lampworking (glass bead demo), beadwork techniques, a make-it-take-it table and more. More than 100 vendors will offer handmade gifts and home items including wooden toys, leather items, table wear, wreaths, doll clothes, books by Alaska authors, gift baskets, stained and fused glass, jams and jellies, jewelry, beads, ceramics, wearable art, Christmas decor, table runners, quilts and more. A food court supported by Golden View Middle School PTA is planned. The Children's Carnival is always a big hit with the kids while you shop. Limited vendor space is still available. Delight your senses as you stroll through more than 55 booths of sparkles, trinkets, handmade gifts and many one-of-a-kind items. Home-based businesses will be there too. A silent auction with a variety of items donated from local businesses will be hosted during the bazaar, and proceeds benefit Focus, Clare House, Dena A Coy and Boys and Girls Clubs. The Moms Club of Eagle River is a nonprofit organization providing support for mothers who choose to stay home with their children. The Salvation Army Teddy Bear Tea and Auction is 2-6 p.m. Sunday at the Hilton Anchorage, 500 W. Third Ave. Enjoy delicious cake and a cup of coffee or tea while you admire the more than 200 "best-dressed" teddy bears at this annual event to benefit local Salvation Army programs. Imagine an old-fashioned holiday bazaar with unique handcrafted ornaments, Victorian lace baskets, quilts, candles, antiques and collectibles, jewelry, furs and crystal. Specialty food vendors will offer honey-glazed ham, smoked salmon, sauces, kettle popcorn, European breads, cakes, jams and jellies. Highlights include more than 300 booths, kid activities, stage shows, a living Nativity performance, Santa Claus and toy land. Headlining the festival will be Jump 5, a national teen-pop-Christian group. CASAs for Children's 11th annual Silent Quilt Auction is 11 a.m.-2 p.m. Saturday at ConocoPhillips atrium, 700 G. St. More than 150 quilts in all shapes and sizes with holiday, children and traditional themes will be auctioned. All quilts begin at $30. We also have a queen-size "Storm at Sea" raffle quilt in jewel-tone batiks. Tickets are $5 each or five tickets for $20. The winning raffle ticket will be drawn at the auction at 2:30 p.m. You do not need to be present to win. All proceeds from this yearly event remain in Alaska for the benefit of abused and neglected children. Christmas Boutique by the Kenai- Soldotna Crafters is 10 a.m.-4 p.m. Saturday at the Kenai Senior Citizens Center, 361 Senior Court. This is the 27th annual original holiday bazaar by 14 local artisans and craftspeople. Included are handcrafted gifts, pottery, toile painting, fabric crafts, wood toys, turned-wood bowls, cribbage boards, jewelry, note cards, fused and stained glass, hand-woven baskets, Christmas ornaments and decorations, doll clothing, scarves, calendars, decorating items, place mats, table runners, beanbag frogs and more. Kenai Art Guild Arts and Crafts Fair is 10 a.m.-6 p.m. Friday and 10 a.m.- 4 p.m. Saturday at Kenai Central High School, 9583 Kenai Spur Highway, sponsored by Peninsula Art Guild Inc. More than 140 booths offer handcrafted items by artists and artisans from many Alaska communities. Shop for holiday ornaments and gifts, beadwork, jewelry, pottery, woodworking, horn and antler crafts, home decor items, signs, leather work, framed prints and photographs, original drawings, hand-knit hats from hand-spun yarn, handmade soaps and many other unique and other creative items. The fair is limited to handmade, handcrafted items only. Booth-space rentals fund Kenai Art Guild's local scholarship program for Peninsula students (graduating seniors and adults) pursuing higher education in the arts. Holiday Bazaar by the Lutheran Women's Missionary League and Thrivent Financial for Lutherans is 10 a.m.-4 p.m. Saturday at the Star of the North Lutheran Church, 216 N. Forest Drive, Kenai. This bazaar will feature handmade crafts, knitted, crocheted and needlework items, Christmas decorations, gifts, centerpieces, baked goods, jams and jellies, candies and other items. Seward's Holiday Bazaar is 4 p.m.- 9 p.m. Friday and 10 a.m.-5:30 p.m. Saturday at the Alaska Railroad's cruise ship terminal, 913 Port Ave. ARR's Christmas Train will bring you to the front door, where you will find over 80 vendors. Shop for handcrafted blown and stained glass, handmade quilts, gold and silver handmade jewelry, wood carvings, ivory carvings, soaps and candles, knitted clothing, bead work, ornamental iron works, children's toys, gift boxes, paintings, wildlife photography, jams and jellies and more. Nonprofit booths will offer baked goods; quilt raffles, hot beverages and gourmet meals, educational material and more.
